Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven winger, Steven Bergwijn. It is being reported that Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino is keeping a keen eye on the highly-rated winger as he considers injecting some quality into his squad when the transfer window opens in January.

The 20-year-old youngster has put in some impressive performances for his team and has helped them go six points clear at the top of the Eredivisie league standings. Some sources are claiming that his recent form has alerted Pochettino, who is lining up a move for the PSV starlet next month.

The North Londoners will face competition in the form of Serie A club, Torino who had a £9m bid rejected by PSV in August. It is understood that the Italians are still interested in the 20-year-old’s signature with Premier League clubs West Ham United and Bournemouth set to join in on the race to secure the services of the Ajax youngster. However, it is believed that if Spurs put up a concrete offer for the Dutch winger, it is highly likely that Bergwijn will find them as a greater attraction over the other clubs.

Bergwijn has scored two goals and three assists in 15 first-team appearances for PSV Eindhoven this season. The Dutch starlet is under contract with PSV until 2021 but is the only player who is not guaranteed a place in Philip Cocu’s first team with him having to fight for his place with ex Newcastle United forward, Luuk de Jong. The 20-year-old is highly versatile and can play on either flank or as a striker up top.

The right-footed PSV youngster came through the youth ranks at Ajax before joining the PSV youth team where he has experienced football at all levels before finally breaking into the first team in the summer of 2015. Bergwijn has also represented Holland at all age levels from Under 17 upwards and has netted 21 times in 41 international appearances.

The Spurs manager is in dire need to bring in reinforcements as his side copes with the pressures of playing in the Premier League and Europe. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has financially backed the Spurs manager in the past but with the construction of their new ground, he might not be able to loosen the purse strings, when the transfer window commences in January.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham makes a bid for the player next month but a summer move seems more likely, considering the fact that PSV will have a better chance of finding a suitable replacement for Bergwijn. But do you think he is the right man for Spurs?
