Crystal Palace are preparing a move for Angers striker Karl Toko Ekambi. It is being reported that the Ligue 1 forward is gathering interest from the Premier League duo of Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion. The Cameroonian international has scored 9 goals and provided 3 assists in 18 appearances for Angers this season. He has been in superb form in front of goal for the Ligue 1 club so far but has still not managed to push his side up the Ligue 1 standings. They are currently in 19th place and in real danger of getting relegated from the top tier of French football.
According to a report from the French press, Toko Ekambi has been gathering interest from a whole host of clubs which include Roy Hodgson’ Eagles and Alan Pardew’ Baggies amongst other European teams. The 25-year-old is believed to be happy and content in French football but might be tempted to switch clubs if he gets a pay rise in the region of £50,000 a week. The Paris born forward has also earned 17 international caps for the Cameroon national team and his remarkable form this season has given rise to a lot of speculation with regards to his future.
Crystal Palace has enjoyed an unbelievable revival since Roy Hodgson took over the helm at Selhurst Park. They have started to score goals again following a dismal start to the campaign.
The Eagles did not score a single league goal in their opening seven games of this Premier League season. However, Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke has found some form of late and has scored the majority share of their goals which has helped the club climb out of the bottom three places in the league table.
The Eagles are sitting in 16th place in the Premier League standings, just two points above the relegation zone. Hodgson has identified that he needs to bring in a prolific goalscorer in the January transfer window and Toko Ekambi could be the man to fire them out of the potential relegation dogfight that is going to take place in the second half of the season.
The Cameroonian striker is playing for a similar team in France and has shown that he can score goals even when chances are at a premium. He will definitely be able to improve this Palace team going forward if they are able to secure his services.
Only time will tell whether Roy Hodgson can fend off competition from rivals West Bromwich Albion and win the race for his signature.
