Leicester City wrote themselves a fairy tale that grasped the attention of the entire world in the 2015-16 season. From being threatened by relegation in the 2014-15 season, Ranieri’s side went on to an incredible title win the next season as the world stood to watch in amazement.
Winning the Premier League changed the club overnight. They had become one of the English sides to represent Europe, and were being referred to as “English Champions”.
It has been over a year since the season got over, but tonight was all about Leicester City reminding everyone about the quality that the 2015-16 Champions still possess. It was another Mahrez and Vardy show for the fans to watch.
Let us take a look at the player ratings on the night.
Kasper Schmeichel: 7.5
A mixed night for the keeper. A good save and a couple of casual goal kicks for him as Leicester City held on.
Danny Simpson: 8
Played through great pain and kept the right side of the defence steady.
Wes Morgan: 7.5
A captain’s performance as he marshalled the defence well.
Harry Maguire: 8.5
A fantastic performance to keep Harry Kane quiet all night and matched him on every physical aspect. Just lost Kane once in the entire match and unsurprisingly it led to the striker scoring.
Ben Chilwell: 8
A brilliant performance from the back up left back as he attacked and defended equally well.
Riyad Mahrez: 8.5
A typical Mahrez run by cutting in from the left flank before curling in an unstoppable effort into the far post for Leicester’s second goal of the night. He was excellent all night and pressed high throughout.
Wilfred Ndidi: 8
Full of running and stamina, he is developing into a fine young player.
Vicente Iborra: 8
The calmer of the two centre midfielders, he rarely lost the ball and kept things rolling for his team.
Marc Albrighton: 8
Delivered a beautiful cross to find Vardy for Leicester’s first goal of the night.
Shinji Okazaki: 7.5
A performance full of chasing and running as he gave Vardy the support he needed.
Jamie Vardy: 9
The Englishman was back to his best and scored with a world-class chip volley to begin Leicester’s party on the night.
Substitutes
Demarai Gray: 6.5
A few quick runs but should have been more clinical on the counter attacks.
Hamza Choudhury: 6.5
A crucial tackle to take Kane off the ball but that is all he could do in 10 minutes on the pitch.
