Atletico Madrid Yannick Carrasco has found himself in the spotlight despite being injured an out of action. The dynamic winger with a keen eye for goal is currently serving time on the sideline with a knee injury. Carrasco has missed the last four games for Atletico and is undergoing recovery with the club.
The story doing the rounds is that the Belgian winger wanted to go home to visit his family as he was anyway not featuring for the club. However, his visit was cancelled by the club, who wants him to stay at the Spanish capital and continue his rehab with the club doctors, instead.
Carrasco has been left frustrated and angered with such a decision and it seems he is at swords with the club again, a situation that is becoming a recurring feature for the winger this season.
The previous situation at the club arose when Carrasco was taken off by manager Diego Simeone during a 1-1 encounter against Qarabag in the Champions League. Carrasco clearly was not on board with the manager’s decision to sub him off and wanted to stay on and help him team. Upon his substitution, Carrasco stormed away from the pitch and Simeone, according to reports, had a strict talk with the player later on regarding his arrogant reaction to the manager’s decision on the pitch.
As the relationship between the club and the player keeps getting sour, it appears Chelsea might want to rekindle their interest in the player they were keen on adding in the summer. Chelsea already have a contingent of Belgian players in the squad with the likes of Hazard and Courtois at the club for years now. Carrasco might be convinced or persuaded by them away on national camp to make the switch to the West London club where he will no doubt be a first-team regular.
Chelsea currently have Pedro, Hazard, Willian and young Charly Musonda as the wingers in the senior team. While Hazard is untouchable in the team the same cannot be said for the rest of the three options. Musonda is very clearly a backup option opted for by Conte due to lack of summer signings.
The case for Pedro and Willian is that both players are highly inconsistent and have a habit of disappearing from matches. While Pedro still fights and puts in an effort which to make something happen, Willian simply overcomplicates matters from himself everytime he gets the ball. The Brazilian does not release the ball soon enough and cannot be counted as a first team starter by any margin. Pedro despite his efforts is far away from adding the quality Chelsea need at the top.
In such a scenario, Carrasco would be the perfect foil for Hazard and Morata and should the three frontmen be able to striker a chemistry, it can take Chelsea far into the depths of many competitions this season.
