Tottenham Hotspur are ramping up their interest in Celtic star Kieran Tierney, as per reports from the Daily Record. The talented fullback was linked with a move to Spurs last month, but that interest became even more evident when the Premier League giants sent a top-notch European scout to watch Tierney against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
The 20-year-old did really well against the likes of Arjen Robben and Joshua Kimmich, which might have just convinced Spurs to go after him this summer.
Following a summer transfer window, revolving around fullbacks and defenders, Spurs might be in for a similar window this January, as Danny Rose’s future at the club looks uncertain, which makes Kieran Tierney all the more important.
The English international has been injured and slowly returning to fitness but despite his availability, head coach Mauricio Pochettino has preferred Ben Davies in the left back position. With Manchester United in need of a quality left back, a smart man will put his money on Danny Rose leaving Spurs to don the Red Devils shift soon enough. And that’s where Kieran Tierney comes into play!
The Celtic youngster can be the desired replacement for the English International, who has suffered a lot of injuries in recent memory. While he may not have the same attacking influence as Danny Rose, Tierney is famously known as a two-way fullback. He is not as attack oriented as Danny Rose but is a well-rounded fullback, which perfectly suits the need of head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
As we have come to notice in recent years, fullbacks can be a very important of Tottenham’s tactical philosophy and to have an all-around fullback like Kieran Tierney is sure to delight the Argentinian mastermind. The youngster has also improved a lot in his offensive work under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.
Defensively, Celtic club captain Scott Brown describes him as ‘hard as nails’ and that he ‘would tackle his granny’, which firmly clarifies his solidity at the back.
Make no mistake, Kieran Tierney is one of the hottest up and coming defensive talents in British football and under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino, the Scottish youngster could easily evolve into one of Premier League’s best full-backs.
However, it is unlikely that Celtic will let one of their most valuable players in the middle of a season but the 20-year-old could come under some serious transfer speculation next summer. Do you think Tierney will be a good addition for Spurs?
