Southampton are reportedly interested in MK Dons defender Callum Brittain. The 19-year-old right back is the latest hotshot to have emerged in the transfer market. The youngster has been in splendid form in League One and his display also earned him a call-up to the England U20 side.

He made a thumping start to his Three Lions career as he laid on two goals for England who went on to crush Italy earlier this month. He also featured in the 4-0 win over the Czech Republic giving him the exposure to give his career a much-needed breakthrough.

Brittain advanced through the MK Dons academy which has been the biggest producer of talents for the last few years. The likes of Brendan Galloway, Sheyi Ojo and most evidently Dele Alli have been very successful with their respective clubs and the defender could soon follow their path.

Dele Alli’s meteoric rise in North London is no short of a fairytale. The 21-year-old midfielder has established himself as an esteemed player at this tender age and has been a regular for both country and club.

Brittain burst onto the scene earlier this year and since then, didn’t have to look back. His rise to prominence has attracted a number of suitors with Southampton being one of them.

Mauricio Pellegrino might still be in fear of losing Cedric Soares in January. The Portuguese international is currently one of the best right backs in the Premier League and will surely be on the radar of a number of big clubs in England. The gaffer doesn’t want to take chance and has shortlisted Brittain as a possible cover for Soares. Brittain has tremendous pace and his attacking instincts has also proved to be very handy for the opponents.

The youngster used to be a winger earlier in his career but has now shifted to a more defensive position. Spurs are also keeping a tab on the player despite signing Serge Aurier in the summer. Pochettino is an admirer of the player and wants him to develop under his tutelage.

The 19-year old’s contract is scheduled to expire at the end of this season and there hasn’t been any talks with the club over a contract renewal. So Southampton have a great chance of luring, offering more game time but can Brittain be a hit in the top flight?
