Wolves’ ace Ruben Vinagre has been receiving much-wanted attention from the Premier League clubs due to his convincing performances. He has been impressive since he joined from Monaco last summer on a loan deal and he is now raising eyebrows of around the country.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton have joined the race to sign the starlet from Portugal. Manchester United are looking to build a squad with a mixture of experience and youth, in order to fight for success in all competitions. On the other hand, Arsene Wenger too, is having a close eye on this left back. Everton need a replacement for Baines, who is towards the end phase of his career and Vinagre is an option there as well.
Ruben Vinagre joined the youth system of Sporting CP and was selected for Portugal U-17 which won at the UEFA European Championship. Due to his consistency and hard work, he got into the U-18 and U-19 team too.
He was transferred to the senior setup of AS Monaco in 2016. He was then loaned out to Academica De Coimbra where he couldn’t make any appearances due to FIFA rules. However, this season, he finally is getting some time out there in the middle with Wolverhampton. He has featured on eight occasions for them and scored his first professional goal too.
He is very mature and powerful for his age. Ruben is great with the ball at his feet considering his position. He can get past players and fight well in the shoulder battle.
The youngster is calm, good passer and is highly focused. Most importantly, he is fearless and loves to rise to the occasion. Sometimes, he loses the ball all too easily while trying too hard. Also to mention, some of his aerial weaknesses have been noticeable.
Manchester United need not do the scouting for a left back as they have many options. Blind, Rojo, Shaw and Darmian, all can play in the left-back role.
So it does not seem United should make a fuss for a player who yet hasn’t established himself. Darmian is 27 and Luke Shaw has a bright future ahead of him if he stays fit, as he is just 22. Manchester United instead, can scout a right winger as Mata is more of a playmaker who likes to stay a touch deeper or a centre-forward, as a backup for Mkhitaryan. Should they pursue their interest in the 18-year old?
