Chelsea are currently placed in the fourth position in the Premier League table, trying their best to retain the title for another season. However, they have not been able to hit the ground running as of yet, owing to their scrappy form, experiencing a demoralising defeat in their last match against Manchester City before the international break.

The Blues have a very strong squad at their disposal, who helped them clinch the Premier League trophy in the last term. They added a few more top class players during the summer transfer window, including one of the best strikers in European football in the form of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has already shown his ability to spearhead the attack, scoring six goals in seven matches, including a brilliant hat-trick against Stoke City. However, he found it difficult to cope with the hard ways of English football and has succumbed to an injury in their last outing against the Citizens.

The injury seems serious and could keep the young Spaniard out of the action for quite some time. This has made gaffer Antonio Conte wary about the firepower of his side, with only Michy Batshuayi left to lead the attack for the Blues when they return to the pitch after the international break.

Though the Belgian international is considered to be one of the best young strikers in Europe at the moment, it is more likely for the Italian manager to use him as a backup, while bringing in another player to lead the attack up front, filling in for Morata.

One such player, who is eyed by Conte for quite some time now, is Batshuayi’s compatriot Dries Mertens.

The 30-year-old is currently plying his trade at the Italian club Napoli and has been in brilliant form for them of late. In the eleven games that the Italian outfit have played this term in all competitions, the sharpshooter has already notched up nine goals including a hattrick, leading his side to the top of the league table in Serie A.

The player has been the subject of interest from a number of big-name clubs from all over Europe, including Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal. However, the West London club might be the ones to gazump their rivals and bring in the Belgian marksman into their side in the next couple of transfer windows.

Will his addition help Chelsea continue their dominance?
