Burnley have been linked with Inter Milan defender Yuto Nagatomo. Sean Dyche really has some serious faith on him and wants to bring the 31-year old at the Turf Moor in January. The Japanese international has been a long-term target for the experienced gaffer and he now really wants to bring the player to Premier League.
Nagatomo has been a regular for Inter Milan this season, which has been a successful one for the Italian giants so far. They shrugged off their previous season’s difficulties and have hit the ground hard this season. Nerazzurri are currently in third place in the Serie-A table and are very much in the contention for the Italian title.
The arrival of Charlie Taylor has worked as a temporary solace for Dyche but the absence of adequate cover in that position is a major problem for them. Stephen Ward is currently 32, and well past his prime and Nagatomo could add some valuable experience to the English side.
Dyche emphasises more on his defensive setup and his main strategy has been ‘how not to concede goals’. He knows the art of defending very well and probably that’s why he is pursuing the Japanese international.
Nagatomo’s current contract is due to expire in 2019 and the Italian giant have offered him an improved deal to extend his stay at the club. But the player is yet to take a decision on his future and should he reject the deal, Dyche is ready to make a move for him in January.
West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United are also planning to sign the player. Both the club are in dire need of reinforcements and have been bowled out by the player’s performances over the years. Rafa Benitez has especially prioritized the signing of a left back and would be more than happy if the player arrives at the St James Park.
Inter have been on a good run of form and losing him in the midst of the season would be a blow for them. Nagatoma has been a regular this season and has featured in five matches so far. His experience at the bigger stage could be an added advantage and Dyche might have found a decent man for his side.
Burnley so far have exceeded all the expectations and to keep up the momentum Dyche would be needed some added reinforcements in January. They had a pretty good summer and the upcoming transfer window is likely to be a bit different. So can he lure Nagatomo to Turf Moor?
