Arsenal are currently nowhere near their desired position on the league table, after their dismal performance last season saw them slip away from their position in the top four, an unwanted feat that they achieved for the first time since 1998. However, they are looking to come back as strongly as possible into Premier League action once after back to back wins against Brighton and West Bromwich Albion to lift them to the fifth place.
Arsene Wenger is well known for his interest in young players and has been dependant on their exuberance to bring success to the North London club all through his managerial career. A number of youngsters from England as well as other European countries have been a part of his team in every season spent at the Emirates and this one has not been an exception as well.
Keeping up with the trend, the wily Frenchman probably has his eyes on some more fresh faces.
According to reports, Wenger is presently targeting the English Under 21 international Dean Henderson, who plays as a goalkeeper for Shrewsbury Town. He is plying his trade at the League One club since his arrival in 2017 on loan from Arsenal’s arch-rivals Manchester United and is turning heads with his brilliant displays between the crossbars for the Shrews.
The 20-year-old looked in supreme touch for his national team as well, representing them in the Under 20 World Cup held earlier this year. He led them to the ultimate glory and clinched the winner’s medal, making a mark with his brilliant efforts and the ability to keep a cool head in even the most adverse of situations.
His ball handling skills and ability to marshal the side from beneath the goalpost has attracted the attention of a number of big-name clubs including the likes of Arsenal as well as the reigning Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Benfica. He will be out of contract with the Red Devils after this season and there have been no further talks between the young custodian and Manchester United about a fresh one as of now.
Arsenal have always been a side who have nurtured the best of the young talents into superstars of the future, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas being the best of the examples. They are eager to do the same with young Henderson as well but might have to face stern competition from a number of Championship clubs as well in the next transfer window.
