Liverpool are looking to get their season back to winning ways once again after losing and drawing their last two matches consecutively in the Premier League against Manchester City and Burnley, so as to make the campaign as successful as the last one, which they ended in the top four of the league table.
The man in charge at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp, has been a big fan of attacking style football and his “gegenpressing” style has brought the Reds rich dividends so far in his tenure.
He already has some of the best attackers in European football at his disposal, including the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, in addition to the talismanic Brazilian forward Phillipe Coutinho, who has currently taken a back seat given his injury concern in the present situation. So Klopp might be willing to add some more firepower to his squad for this season.
Reportedly, the German tactician has got his eyes fixed on his national compatriot, Leon Goretzka, who has made a name for himself in European football with his brilliant prowess and superb pace. The player is termed as one of the best young forwards in the German Bundesliga in the last few seasons and is currently plying his trade for Schalke 04.
Playing as a central midfielder, the 22-year-old has been one of the most highly regarded players in the Bundesliga, helping his side to go into attack by getting the ball in the right place at the right time with his pinpoint passing and crisp crossing. He is also adept at adding to the attack from time to time, scoring crucial goals for his side.
The player has been tracked by a number of big-name clubs in the recent years including Liverpool, who are currently at the top of the list of potential suitors for the German playmaker. The Reds are willing to sign him as soon as possible and add as much solidarity as possible to their squad for the season ahead.
Goretzka was one of the best players in the last season for Schalke getting them to the quarterfinals of the Europa League before dramatically getting beaten by the eventual runner-up of the tournament Ajax. However, his contribution was huge for his side and the Reds’ manager will hope that he will do the same in case they get a chance to sign him in the winter transfer window. But can Klopp lure him to Anfield?
