Tottenham Hotspur Eyeing Last Season’s Europa League Defensive Star: Perfect Player For Pochettino?

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to start their venture in the transfer market this summer, having not spent a single penny so far. However, it seems the Premier League runners up from the last term are about start their spending spree, as they are aiming for a top class defender for the next term.

One such player, Davinson Sanchez, who has been grabbing a lot of attention from a number of big name clubs from all over Europe since his gallant performance in last season’s UEFA Europa League for his club Ajax, is being eyed by the current man in charge at Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino, who is looking to bring him into the club to strengthen the backline for the new season.

The Colombian centre back, who is known for his physical presence and his ability to keep the opposition strikers at bay from scoring against his team, has been one of the most sought after names after he made it possible for his club Ajax to reach the final of the Europa League in the last season. Tottenham are in need of a top class central defender, who can be used as a back-up for their mainstays in the heart of the defence, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, and can make a bid for the Colombian international.

The 21-year-old youngster has impressed not only his club fans with his brilliant skills but also has come up a viable option in the backline for a number of clubs from all over Europe. He was presented with the Player of the Year award in the last term and has been considered for a move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur in the new season.

The Colombian international made 45 appearances for the Dutch giants in the last term and made a big impact in their backline throughout the whole season. Apart from taking them to the final of the Europa League, the young defender has shone in the Dutch Eredivisie as well, by taking them almost to the top of the league. However, they missed out on becoming the champions by a single point, handing over the title to their arch rivals Feyenoord.

Tottenham have been looking to make it big in the Premier League once again in the new season, which they missed out on the previous occasion, leaving Chelsea to raise the trophy. They are quite sure that the inclusion of a strong and dependable player like Sanchez in their backline will help them to achieve their intended target.
