Arsenal faced their second defeat in the Premier League this term in consecutive matches, having lost to a rampant Liverpool side, who literally toyed with their defence while netting four goals in one of the most dominating displays so far this season. This has put the Gunners on the back foot early in the season and has raised a number of questions over their policies and strategies regarding team selection and composition of the present squad.
Neither the fans nor the players are happy with the recent results and some might look to make a move out of the club before the summer transfer window is closed. One of them, Mesut Ozil, is eyed by a number of clubs including German giants Borussia Dortmund, who have recently lost their sensational youngster Ousmane Dembele to a mega transfer deal to former Spanish La Liga Champions Barcelona.
The German midfield maestro joined the Gunners back in 2013 from Real Madrid, reigniting hopes for their fans to achieve significant results in domestic as well as European competitions.
However, despite playing to the best of his efforts, the 28-year-old has not been able to bag any of the major trophies including the Champions League as well as the Premier League, which might induce him to rethink his decision of committing his long term future at the North London club.
Ozil has featured in 164 matches for his current club and has 32 goals so far to show for his efforts. However, it is the assists column that really shows what a great team player he is, as the wily playmaker has come to the help of his teammates on 57 occasions so far, providing absolutely pinpoint passes and crosses into the attacking third, helping his colleagues score goals and keep his side in advantage.
The player has also not put down his signature on a new agreement, with his current contract ending after the current season. However, the way things are currently taking shape, it seems the Gunners will have a tough time in keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until the end of the current transfer window.
Also the fact that the North London club is not participating in the Champions League this term is going to be a detrimental factor in the German midfielder staying back.
Undoubtedly, his departure will be disastrous for the Gunners, as they are to miss the enigmatic presence of the World Cup winner on the pitch, marshalling his team with his conclusive passes, helping his teammates to score and chipping in with a few goals as well. It is probably the worst time for the Gunners to lose Ozil but can they keep him beyond the deadline day?
