Southampton are yet to utilise the transfer market as Mauricio Pellegrino has been hunting the right player for Southampton and it seems he has found the player to make a move for at last. According to reports, he has shortlisted Napoli midfielder Allan as a potential target.
The Saints are yet to open their account since the transfer window opened but are bound to sign a number of players and Allan could be the first of many. Since Mauricio Pellegrino took over the reins from Claude Puel, expectations have soared pretty high and he knows very well he needs to add some quality to the side to prevail in the upcoming season.
Puel’s strategy seemed to have hurt the club mostly as he totally lost support in the last season and apparently fumbled his lines badly. He failed to set a fixed starting lineup and rotated the squad quite frequently which created a lot of confusion among the players.
Despite having a pretty strong squad at his disposal, the French gaffer’s execution was pretty sloppy and even though the Saints managed to finish in the eighth place, he had lost the squad’s confidence due to a lot of issues.
Pellegrino did extraordinarily with Alaves as, despite his limited resources, he guided the Spanish club to a very impressive ninth position. In the Premier League, competition is much more fierce and he needs to be very cautious while chalking out his plans.
Southampton need some restructuring in the centre of the midfield and Allan would be a very useful acquisition for the Saints. In Steven Davies and Oriel Romeu, Southampton have two of the most tireless midfielders and the addition of Allan would give them a much-needed advantage.
Allan’s addition would ease the pressure off them as they could turn their attention towards their defensive attributes. Allan has been with Napoli since 2015 and in the last two years, his progress has been very rapid with the Italian club.
He has made his own mark in the Serie A and could emulate his achievements in the Premier League. Allan racked up a goal and five assists in the last season and there are very few players who could match his tenacity in the middle of the pitch.
Napoli are ready to cash in on the player if a suitable offer comes and Pellegrino should take this opportunity to make a move for the player. An offer of £10m should be enough for them to tempt Napoli to part ways with the 26-year old midfielder.
