Juventus are considering their options to make a move for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can. The German international has had a pretty good outing with the Reds as they have secured a place in the Champions League playoffs. He arrived at the Anfield in 2014 for a reported fee of £10m.
The 23-year-old midfielder had a turbulent season with the English outfit. He struggled in the earlier phase of the season and was criticised for his performances. But an injury to Jordan Henderson opened a window of opportunity for him and the defensive midfielder played a pivotal role in the centre of the pitch in his absence. Jurgen Klopp seemed to be very happy to have an alternative for Henderson and will be looking forward to working with him in the next season.
The only concern remains his contract. The player is moving into the last year of his contract with Liverpool and negotiations are going on in full swing for the past few months to keep the player at Anfield. He is yet to commit his future to the club as he has been demanding a steep wage hike to his current salary but Klopp is confident that he will sign on the dotted line very soon.
Juventus want to take advantage of his contract situations as Max Allegri is searching new players to sharpen his current team. Real Madrid thrashed Juventus in the Champions League final 4-1 but they will want to keep the core of the squad intact as they go into the next season.
They already have formidable midfielders with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Sami Khedira and Claudio Marchisio but Allegri wants to add sufficient backup, especially after watching the performance of Khedira in the final. The German midfielder had a poor afternoon against Madrid and Can could be a reenergized option in the midfield.
However, if he does make a move in the favour of Italian champions he will not be assured of first team chances. Allegri is expected to make very little changes to the current set up and Can will only play a rotating role in the squad.
Playing in a new atmosphere might tempt him for a move but Liverpool are trying hard to reach a new agreement with him. He can be given a new role keeping in mind Henderson’s uncertainty and Liverpool certainly cannot afford him to lose in this situation. So should they give in to his wage demands?
