Blaise Matuidi has emerged as the new target for Chelsea as Antonio Conte is ready to launch a new offer for the player. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is interested in a move outside of the French club.
Conte will be backed by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich after the manager expressed his frustration over the lack of intent shown by the club in the transfer market. The gaffer is expected to sign a new contract but is yet to commit his future to the club.
Although Chelsea are reportedly very close to sealing a move for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, Conte is pushing for another midfielder who would suit his style. The Italian gaffer has been playing a more power based football last season and in his system, the need of a dynamic presence is very necessary.
Matuidi’s contract is due to expire at the end of the next season and he will be open to offers. His dad Faria Matuidi has hinted that player is ready to test his skill outside France as there has been no contract talk from the French club.
Chelsea had one of the deadliest midfield pairings in N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic. Matic worked his part as a midfield destroyer while Kante was the most prominent aspect of the side. But with Matic on the verge of leaving the club, Conte would be hoping to land another player and Matuidi would be a fine addition to his side.
The player boasts of a very physical presence and his playing style is more versatile. He can cover a lot of ground and can perfectly dictate the play from deep. His defensive attributes are also very encouraging and his exceptional work rate has made him one of the most dangerous midfielders in the European circuit right now.
Conte has been searching a definite type of midfielder and Matuidi fits the bill perfectly. The Blues will be competing in a number of competitions including the Champions League and the Italian gaffer has to make sure he has enough players at his disposal. He led the Blues to their second title in three years and would be hoping to reap the dividends in the next season.
With Matuidi entering his last year of contract, Chelsea can get him for a much cheaper fee than what PSG would have been hoping for. If Matuidi does move, it will bring an end to his six-year spell with the French club.
