After a very average first season, Pep Guardiola will be eager to prove his credentials in the upcoming season. The Spaniard has already managed some excellent signings as Manchester City snapped up Bernardo Silva from Monaco and Ederson from Benfica.
With the other big clubs yet to open their account in the transfer market City have already registered two quality arrivals and there could be more signings upfront. Guardiola’s old disciple Dani Alves is set to reunite with his former coach under whom he played some excellent football in Spain.
City are reportedly also in talks with Alexis Sanchez as Guardiola is trying to assemble an ensemble attacking front enriched with talents. Arsenal will be trying to stop the deportation of the Chilean international to one of their direct rivals as it could eclipse their stature.
In the past we have seen Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna switched their allegiance to the Sky Blues and Sanchez could be the latest player to follow the suit.
City are already well stocked in the attacking department and the addition of Bernardo Silva would make them even stronger than before. Apart from the attack, the defence needs to be taken care of as John Stone’s form has not been up to the mark while Vincent Kompany has his own injury issues. That leaves Pep with Nicolas Otamendi as the only ‘ready to play’ central defender so the arrival of another centre back seems imminent.
We could expect the likes of Bernardo Silva and Ederson to be unleashed directly from the first day of the season. Despite giving a much-improved performance last season, the role of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling is yet to be defined. Sane ran riots from the left flanks after arriving from Schalke but the arrival of Silva has put a question mark on his chances in the starting lineup.
This City side are already looking much fitter and leaner than from the previous season. A host of players including Samir Nasri, Nolito and Wilfried Bony are slated to leave the club which will make the competition within side more intriguing.
Pep would be adamant to find out the cutting edge as we have seen inconsistencies hit the side pretty hard in the last season.Clubs like Leicester City and Everton got the better of them but Pep knows he still has a lot of work to do with this young bunch of talents. So do you think they can go all the way next season?
