It has been a season worth relishing for Celtic owing to the fact that they have seemingly appeared to be miles ahead of their fellow domestic rivals, both in terms of quality as well as their productivity on the pitch. Having clinched the Scottish Premiership and League Cup already, the Bhoys are aiming for a historic domestic treble which they could muster if they lift the Scottish Cup later this month if they can beat Aberdeen in the final.
What has been particularly intriguing to see is the manner in which the youngsters have been given the license to thrive under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers. The likes of Kieran Tierney, Patrick Roberts and Moussa Dembele have been brutally ruthless and utterly dominating and without any shadow of a doubt, it is Tierney’s calibre which has particularly drawn the widest attention. The Scottish prodigy dethroned the veteran left-back, Emilio Izaguirre and established himself as the first choice asset on the left-hand side of Celtic’s well-knitted defence.
The 19-year-old had rejected to making a move to Arsenal in the summer of 2016 and his stellar campaign with the Hoops give us the testament of how shrewd decision it eventually turned out to be. Tierney has upgraded himself incredibly, blasting down the left and jotting meticulous crosses time and again and testing the opposition’s goalkeeper on many occasions as well. He toils relentlessly, never refrains from getting into tight areas and manoeuvring commendable tackles and interceptions. His stocks have raised rapidly this campaign and there lies absolutely no doubt whatsoever in this perception.
Despite being a relatively new player, Tierney has shown immense maturity, commitment and dedication whilst plying his trade. The Celtic youth product, most notably, is a modern day fullback who knows to maintain a fine balance between his attacking and defensive endeavours. He was given the chance to excel and he embraced the opportunities that were handed to him by the former Liverpool manager with open arms. Further, let’s not forget that he has found himself a place in the Scottish national side too, which speaks volumes (considering his age), doesn’t it?
The PFA Scotland and SFWA Young Player of the Year has been under intense speculation, with English Premier League champions Chelsea one of the latest addition to the list of his admirers. Frankly speaking, a move to a club having a financial muscle much stronger than Celtic might sound appealing but then, his developments is seemingly likely to suffer a blow owing to the plethora of stars in the ranks of the Blues. It would make sense for Tierney to continue constructing his upward trajectory by staying at the Celtic Park beyond this season and accumulate more experience and confidence before he ventures into more adventurous endeavours.
