Real Madrid, the current league leaders of the Spanish La Liga took on a charged up Sporting Gijon in an interesting encounter on Matchday 33 at the Santiago Bernabeu. Midfield prodigy Isco Alarcon starred in the 3-2 thriller which the Galacticos won right at the last moment, with the midfielder scoring a goal in the 90th minute. This win also confirms their lead at the top, staying ahead of Barcelona by a narrow margin of three points.

In spite of the rather “forgettable” performance, as described by Real boss Zinedine Zidane, there are certain positives that the Galacticos can take from the game against Sporting Gijon. Some of them are as followed.

The rise of Isco

The midfielder looks to be in the form of his life. With each game, the 24-year-old spearhead looks to become more and more mature. With a natural ability to unleash Thunderball from long range to scoring cheeky short range goals, Isco looks to have become a mainstay for the Galacticos.

The forward also possesses some amazing passing and dribbling skills to make the opponents fall in tatters. His brilliant runs with and without the ball is also a sure thing to watch out for, along with his ability to thread passes for his teammates to score goals.

Youngsters coming to the occasion

With the forthcoming home game this week against Bayern Munich and the much awaited El Classico next week in view, Zidane rested 6 of his first team players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro to avoid any unnecessary injuries.

Kiko Casilla replaced Keylor Navas in the goal as well. In their absence, youngsters like Lucas Vasquez, Alvaro Morata and Isco showed that they were well up to the task and managed to win the encounter.

Over-dependence on “BBC” curbed

BBC, the abbreviation for the famous trio of Real Madrid (Gareth) Bale, (Karim)Benzema and Cristiano (Ronaldo), have been instrumental in winning matches for the Galacticos for a very long time. However, in this match, all three were rested and the young brigade was given a chance.

In spite of early hiccups, the young team showed character and won the thrilling encounter right before the final whistle was blown.

Despite the win, club manager Zinedine Zidane will be having concerns, especially about the defence which has not been performing very well of late. With two crucial matches coming up within the span of two weeks, the Real boss has to think of something constructive to maintain their lead both in the Champions League and the Spanish La Liga.
