Ever since finding a footing in the Premier League, Southampton have been a side who have constantly looked for relatively lesser known stars and have enabled them to become household names in no time. Under the tutelage of Claude Puel, the Saints have put on yet another consistent season and are currently placed 10th in the league table with 33 points after 27 games.
To maintain similar stronghold next season, Puel would be taking a dip into the transfer market to find reinforcements and one of the players he could possibly target from the Championship is Solly March. The Brighton & Hove Albion winger has been drawing a lot of attention towards him owing to his fine calibre and has shown a lot of maturity whilst plying his trade despite being in his early twenties.
In 17 appearances (13 of which have been from the bench) in the Championship so far this campaign, March has registered 2 goals and bagged 2 assists. Apart from these, the 22-year-old has made 0.8 key passes every game on an average in a season which is turning out to be a hugely productive one for the Seagulls. Chris Hughton has used him on the left-hand side of the midfield as well as a central attacking midfielder and his versatility would come really handy to the Saints.
March is a very creative player who is technically quite sharp, considering his age. It is not only his passing precision throughout the pitch that has made him one of the hottest properties in the Championship but he carves openings for his side time and again to damage the opposite party. Besides, he is an excellent dribbler of the ball and cuts through the opposition rank during the counter attacks. Make no mistake, he scores goals on odd occasions but what he fetches throughout the pitch make him a gem worth possessing.
March certainly isn’t a finished product as of now but under Puel, he can certainly brush himself up and upgrade himself into something of a nightmare for the opponents. A youth product of Brighton & Hove Albion, the Englishman has continued to develop in a fine manner. He has shown glimpses of what he is capable of this season and a Premier League side like Southampton would really be keen to lure him to St. Mary’s in the summer. He would be the one to meet the needs of short-term as a back-up as well as a long-term option.
