Arsene Wenger has insisted that Mathieu Debuchy’s claim of the pair hardly speaking are totally ‘untrue’.

Debuchy arrived from Newcastle United in the 2014-15 season and has hardly featured for the Gunners. In these three seasons, the French defender has played only 13 matches for them in the Premier League and has missed a large part of his Arsenal career due to injuries.

He has fallen behind the pecking order and has admitted that he wants to leave the club permanently. This season the defender has played only 16 minutes of Premier League football and is currently recovering from a thigh injury.

Debuchy spent the second half of last season on loan at Bordeaux but returned to the Emirates once the season ended.

Wenger said, “We speak. There is communication with all the players. It’s a little bit of a frustrated article from a player who is injured.

“When you are injured you cannot play. I gave him the opportunity to go to Bordeaux on loan last year but nobody came in for him over the summer – not Fiorentina or Espanyol. Some things in the article are not true.

“Manchester United didn’t make an offer for him. That is untrue. It is surprising to hear something like that.”
