Chelsea will face stiff competition in their pursuit of Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij as Bayern Munich are also planning a move for the star.
Antonio Conte has been in the market for a defender and De Vrij fits the bill perfectly. The Dutch defender caught everyone’s eye with his performances in the World Cup. He left Feyenoord for Lazio and has been performing well in the Serie A as well.
De Vrij, whose current deal expires in 2018, has rejected a contract extension and wants to move in January. The 24-year old has the experience of playing in the back three or back four. However, his knack of picking up injuries could be a problem.
The Holland international missed a brief part of the last season due to an injury and is also set to miss the rest of this season after undergoing a knee operation.
Antonio Conte has so far preferred a 3-4-3 formation and De Vrij could be the ideal signing.
