Leicester City received a thrashing at the hands of a whole new Chelsea as Conte unleashed his 3-4-3 on them. The ‘defending champions’ had no glimpse of their previous season whatsoever and their former key player did them no favours by being one of the best players on the other half of the pitch. This leaves Leicester in a pit that keeps growing bigger having lost their top-flight away games, four to be specific!
Player Ratings
Chelsea
Most of the damage was done by a formidable attack and the defense managed to hold them together.
Courtois – 7
Had nothing to do for most of the game and could’ve relaxed on a lounge chair having had to face no trouble even after the inclusion of Mahrez later on.
Luiz – 7.5
The Chelsea defender looks much more composed than he used to in his previous stint. He managed to trouble opposition with some great free kicks and was unfortunate to have been denied by the post.
Cahill – 7
Had a much better game than his previous outings and did a fair job. There were no assists offered by him to the opposition. Perhaps the new system is what he likes better.
Azpilicueta – 7.5
He proved once again why his versatility should be made better use of. He’s probably one of the reasons the back three system worked better.
Marcos Alonso – 7
His abilities in switching attack and defense helped him link well with Hazard and his delivery was used in taking some of the free kicks. No nonsense from him whatsoever.
Matic – 7
The midfielder is improving in his new role which involves a little more activity in attack than his previous seasons. He also showed why he still has to be considered key to the side.
Kante – 8.5
The Premier League winner is showing why he’s a force to be reckoned with. Despite being a more defensive player he did not hesitate in using his vision by delivering good passes. Unfortunate that he did not have a goal to his name. Chelsea fans will be savoring this performance from him.
Moses – 8
Played a brilliant role today and did not misuse possession. Did his best to provide some assistance in both defense and attack and will be a key player for Chelsea.
Pedro – 7.5
Probably the most creative of the lot today along with Kante and he seemed to enjoy himself. If this continues Pedro could still be repaying the faith held in him while he was bought.
Costa – 7.5
On a brilliant streak with 7 goals from 7 games, the gritty forward was very well complemented by Hazard and Pedro.
Hazard – 7.5
The Belgian toyed with Schmeichel while scoring his second goal, probably having learned it from Henry while training with Belgium. The flamboyant attacker seems to be finding his groove again.
Substitutes
Chalobah (7) made a good impact with exchanges alongside Moses for the final goal. Loftus-Cheek and Aina didn’t do much in the short span.
Leicester City
Sad to say no player stood out to even give a distinctive rating. The team didn’t even perform like a team worthy of a top 10 let alone defending champions. Apart from Vardy, Schmeichel and Drinkwater who did decent in the second half the whole team was poor. Nothing seems to be working for the team at the moment.
Drinkwater, Schmeichel and Vardy – 6
Rest of the players – 5
Morgan, Schlupp, Musa, Amartey, Albrighton, Fuchs, Huth
Substitutes
Slimani – 4.5 , Mahrez – 5.5, King – 5
