Making things more interesting at the top of the table, Chelsea hold the 4th place with just one point less than league leaders Manchester City after their convincing 2-0 win away at Southampton.
Chelsea Player Rating
Courtois (8/10)- Although Southampton lacked any real threat up front with every attack looking predominantly blunt, Courtois didn’t lose his concentration and held his ground not making any careless mistakes.
David Luiz (8/10)- Chelsea won quite comfortably because its 3 man defense did a commendable job diminishing every Southampton attack before it built up to a threat. David Luiz made 2 crucial blocks, which could otherwise have seen a different outcome to the game.
He also made 6 clearances when Southampton were pouring in from the flanks.
Gary Cahill (7.5/10)- Did not have to do much throughout the game as few threats came his way. But, he looks like to have taken the mantle from John Terry and will have to continuously prove himself for it.
Made 1 crucial interception and 3 clearances mostly at the closing stage of the first half.
Cesar Azpilicueta (8.5/10)- Conte’s tactics demand excessive work rate from his wing players and Azpilicueta is one of them. The busiest of the defenders this evening, the Spaniard did not let Southampton in from his side.
Made 7 successful clearances throughout the game and won 2 aerial duels in the dying moments of the match.
Victor Moses (9/10)- As remarked earlier, the wing backs in Chelsea’s tactics need to fall back and move up in the blink of an eye and Moses does that brilliantly. He was involved in almost every one of Chelsea’s attack and also defense.
He combined smoothly with Hazard on the right flank that led to the first goal. He himself took two shots but failed to find the net. He also won back the ball 9 times.
