West Bromwich Albion have been linked with free agent Martin Caceres as Tony Pulis looks to add more quality and experience to his first team squad.

Although the transfer window has shut down, clubs who have seemingly failed to land their top-most targets or are unhappy with the result of their summer business, have the option of taking their own sweet time picking out free agents from the pool which has the special distinction of being accessible outside the hectic boundaries of the transfer window. But the quality on offer flatters to deceive and the limited amount of quality players capable of challenging for first team action in the English top flights is few and far between.

One notable name was that of former Arsenal’s all-action midfielder Mathieu Flamini but he was snapped up by Crystal Palace after multiple deals to replace their ex-captain Mike Jedinak failed to materialise on the deadline day. And another name which has been doing the rounds is that of Uruguay International Martin Caceres.

The player was earlier linked with a move to Chelsea which would have seen the player reunite with his former boss from Juventus- Antonio Conte. The Italian had brought the player to Juventus and it was assumed the lack of defensive depth in the team might convince the manager to once again turn towards him. But several clubs have crept onto the radar who have seemingly set their sights on the versatile player who can operate at centre-back and can also double up as a right-back.

The 29-year old is a free agent and his illustrious CV is the main reason a bevvy of clubs are said to be interested in him.  He has come through the ranks with Defensor in his native Uruguay and has since carved out a successful career in Europe having turned out for Barcelona, Sevilla and Juventus. That is a pretty impressive line-up of teams for any player. And his 250 appearances in club football shows that he was more often than not in and around the first team throughout his time till now.

In addition to the 250 club matches he has also turned out for the formidable Uruguay national team 68 times, easily illustrating the amount of experience he will be bringing along with him. His trophy cabinet is also an impressive one wherein he has a La Liga and an astounding 5 Serie A winner’s medal to show for his efforts.

West Brom can do with his services as they are ominously looking like drop contenders. Tony Pulis needs to make a move. Either in the transfer market or on the field as his lacklustre managerial style is making him lose the faith of the supporters gradually every day. Caceres stands out for his passing ability and for the ease with which he holds onto the ball. But his big game experience is something which will aid the Baggies the most.
