Manchester United and Jose Mourinho were back to business as the Red Devils managed to put in a satisfying performance to take all three points from the home game against the Champions of England. After defender Chris Smalling gave the team an early lead, 3 goals in 5 minutes at the end of the first half from Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba gave Manchester United all three points from this game after two back to back losses in the domestic league.
Leicester City were completely outplayed on the night and were looking a shadow of their selves from the previous season, but how did every United player fare? Here are the player ratings for the Manchester United players for this game.
David de Gea (6)
Made one decent save all night and could not do much to keep out the only goal that went in on a comfortable night for the Manchester United shot stopper.
Antonio Valencia (6)
Started the game nervously but grew into it as Leicester lost most of their firepower as the game progressed. Provided width for his side in attack on a number of occasions.
Chris Smalling (7)
Handled the likes of Slimani and Vardy with comfort and also helped his side in front at a difficult time heading in from a corner.
Eric Bailly (7)
Stuck to his task of keeping Vardy away from goal and never gave the England international a time in the game as he did very well to keep Leicester City’s threat at bare minimum.
Daley Blind (7)
Starting as a left-back, Blind was exceptional with his set-piece duties as he picked up two assists in the first half for Smalling’s and Pogba’s goals from corners.
Ander Herrera (8)
Had a superb game in the midfield where he sat back and provided cover for his back-four. Showed great energy and understanding of the game as he snuffed a number of Leicester City attacks at crucial times.
Paul Pogba (8)
Played his best game since his move back to England as he controlled the midfield and also got himself on the score sheet for the first time for the Red Devils this season.
Juan Mata (8)
Took his chance replacing Wayne Rooney with much aplomb as he played a role in Rashford’s goal just after scoring the pick of the lot just before half time.
Jesse Lingard (6)
Showed exceptional technique to set up Juan Mata for his goal and stuck to his task well of putting the pressure on Leicester for most of the game.
Marcus Rashford (7)
Though missed a sitter early in the game, the youngster came back to pick up his third goal in three games in an outstanding performance in the final third.
Zlatan Ibrahimović (6)
Provided the focal point for United’s attacking play but also dropped deep when needed. Did not do enough to get on the score sheet but was influential in the victory.
Subs
Michael Carrick (6)
Came in for Jesse Lingard with just over 10 minutes to play and stuck to his task in the midfield in front of his defence.
Wayne Rooney (6)
Only came into the game with less than 10 minutes to play but worked hard in that time trying to impress his manager.
Ashley Young (6)
Played just the 3 minutes of normal time and could not really effect the game at the end.
