Borussia Monchengladbach star Mahmoud Dahoud has been subjected to the prying eyes of big clubs all over the world after his breakthrough season at Gladbach. The German side are the reason for envy for the European elites who are ready to cough out big money to land the 20-year old. Dahoud came up the ranks of the Gladbach academy and broke into the first team in 2014 after impressing heavily.
The box to box midfielder is also an able dribbler and his penchant for wandering into the opposition box has enabled him to notch up 8 assists and 5 goals last year. He boasts of being the only player to have attempted more than 30 dribbles in the Bundesliga last season and also impressively has a higher success rate (60%) than Manchester United’s big money signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan (59.7%). In a league dominated by the likes of Robben and Ribery this indeed is an eye-watering statistic.
With big clubs interested in the midfielder and according to reports the feeling being mutual, we briefly take a look at 3 clubs where he will be best suited to.
Jurgen Klopp has been an open admirer of the 20-year old and the player is seemingly a Klopp’s special. Having youth on his side, the boy is willing to work hard and solves Liverpool’s current midfield malaise. Klopp knows him well from his experience in Germany and recognises the talents of the lad and the value he can offer to the Reds. In addition to his undoubted talent, the reported asking release clause of £8.5m is likely to suit the Merseysiders perfectly.
The serial Serie A champions are the new club who have reportedly piqued their interest in the Gladbach wonder-kid and are naturally considered front runners if they are to advance their interest into something concrete. Juventus have a Pogba-sized hole after selling the French star for a world record fee to Manchester United. And though they have invested the money to buy quality back-ups, Dahoud is someone they hope can take up the mantle and develop into the next big thing.
Antonio Conte’s inclination towards strong and physical midfielders who can dictate play in advanced areas is well known. Although he has signed Kante, it is well documented that the rest of the available players in midfield are not up to the mark in all the departments that Conte demands. Signing Dahoud at such an early age will give the opportunity to Conte to build his perfect player and it is something which will appeal to the Chelsea fans and the manager because the potential on display from the 20-year old proves he is tailor made for big things.
