Medel grew up in Santiago, the capital of Chile, in a poor barrio with a fuzzy underbelly of drug trafficking. But due to his prudent parents – his father in particular – Medel followed a path of the self-righteous, that pucca road led him out of the prickly, barb-wired rabbit hole and onto dizzy lights of international football.
