The player joined Charlton Athletic from AZ Alkmaar in 2014 and he impressed in both his seasons at the club. Gudmundsson was voted runner-up in the club’s player of the season competition after an impressive first campaign, which saw him net a total of 11 goals in 37 matches. He followed it up with another note-worthy season where he clocked up the joint highest assists in the Championship. But his performances were not enough to save Charlton from dropping a division further down.
After the switch, he reiterated that he was well-equipped to cope with the gulf in class as he believes he has experience having played in the Europa league and the Euros. He further feels the experience will come in handy when he steps out onto the field.
“I’ve played in big games in the Europa League and with Iceland so that’s definitely going to help me when I play for the first time in the Premier League.
“Experience is everything and I have quite a bit of that so I’ll be fine I think.”
Burnley will welcome the player as his recent form aligned with his consistent performances over the past two seasons will come in handy if they are to beat the drop.
And as unambitious as it may sound, the Clarets will be desperately hoping Sean Dyche can somehow ensure their safety this season and they will hope he adds a few more players before the season gets underway.
