Everton are preparing a move for Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw next summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are prepared to end his nightmare stay at Old Trafford by offering him an escape route when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the campaign. The 22-year-old’s future at Manchester is uncertain once again after the defender was substituted at half-time against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday night.
The England international was also criticised in Jose Mourinho’s post-match press conference following their FA quarter-final encounter last weekend. It is understood that the left-back has been annoyed with the lack of regular game time while playing under Mourinho and it is highly likely that he will be eager to make a move out of Old Trafford at the end of the season unless the Special One departs the club first.
Shaw has been a lifelong Chelsea supporter and some sources have recently claimed that the former Southampton fullback is aware of interest from his potential suitors which include Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton. The English fullback could benefit from a switch to Merseyside as he would be in with a great chance of getting regular game time under his belt in Sam Allardyce’s first-team next season.
The Merseyside outfit are currently sitting in 9th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 40 points in 31 matches. They are just three points behind Burnley who are sitting in 7th place with a home match versus Manchester City looming on the horizon.
The addition of Shaw will undoubtedly bolster Sam Allardyce’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign as the Toffees look to bridge the gap between themselves and their local rivals Liverpool next season. At 22, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Everton could look to utilise in the coming years.
The Toffees have the likes of Leighton Baines and Cuco Martina vying for a place in Sam Allardyce’s starting eleven so the potential signing of Shaw will definitely add more competition for places in their squad going into the new season. The English fullback has made 19 matches for the Red Devils this season but is yet to find the back of the net so far. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Luke Shaw and whether he ends up making a move to Goodison Park in the near future.
