Leeds United’s aspirations for paving their way to the Premier League seem to be a distant dream now as they have withered away in the race for the playoffs. The Whites have managed to collect merely a solitary point from their last four league games, with their last Championship fixture ending in a 1-2 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday at the Elland Road on Saturday.
Currently, the Yorkshire based outfit are placed at the 14 spot in the league standings with 50 points to their name after 38 games and there is no denying that some major additions to their arsenal would be needed in the summer. Paul Heckingbottom needs to bring some quality players to engineer hopes for promotion next season and at the same time, he must manage to keep his key players at the club.
As per one of the latest reports by Birmingham Mail, Birmingham City are plotting to make a move for Leeds United’s attacker, Pablo Hernandez, in the summer. The Blues’ manager, Garry Monk, has worked with Hernandez during his reign as a manager at Swansea City and Leeds United and is keen to churn out a reunion with the Spaniard.
Hernandez has been one of the brightest sparks for the Peacocks this season, having scored 5 goals and has also registered 7 assists to his name from 34 appearances. He has plied his trade as a central attacking midfielder and has also operated from either wing. More often than not, he has availed himself as the engine room for the attacking endeavours of Leeds United this campaign.
Monk is looking forward to registering a strong finish in the Championship and start the process of rebuilding Birmingham City in the summer. No wonder why he has put Hernandez on his radar, for his exception eye to create chances, ability to score goals, versatility and the attacking prowess that he offers in the final third is exemplary, to say the least. Frankly speaking, he could be a galvanizing coup for Monk.
The 32-year-old is a very experienced commodity and is well familiar with English football. Despite the stuttering form that his employers have endured, Hernandez has managed to keep his class intact and was quite superb against the Owls last weekend in the league game. He is an indispensable member in the ranks of Heckingbottom and thus, the club should leave no stone unturned to keep him confined to their armoury next season.
