Domingos Quina’s talents have caught the eyes of Arsenal along with a host of European clubs. West Ham United were reportedly interested in hearing offers from other clubs over the services of Quina this January. The best offer would be to send the 18-year-old out on loan for the remainder of the season with a buyback option.
The Hammers are in the heat of a relegation battle themselves and are held off the bottom three by just 2 points. David Moyes have instilled a sense of purpose into the squad but are still falling short on certain occasions.
With his eyes set on surviving the drop to the Championship, the former Manchester United manager will be utilising every resource available to him. However, the prospects of Quina might not flourish in the current scenario with able bodies ahead of him in the pecking order.
The Portuguese U20 international joined West Ham in May 2016 with an expectation of signing a contract into the senior team. He primarily spent his time developing his game in the Benfica academy and then Chelsea, before joining with the Hammers.
The 18-year-old joined West Ham and Slaven Bilic immediately promoted him to the first team squad, playing twice in the Hammers’ UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign before the Premier League season began.
Quina has so far made only 6 senior appearances for the club, only the last 2 as starters against Wycombe and Bristol Rovers in the EFL League cup. With immense talent under his belt, the teenager has shown signs of future stardom, if given the opportunity to shine.
Quina was even pursued by the English FA who had made inquiries to the Portuguese FA about the midfielder.
The only way for youngsters to develop early into the game is by playing with the senior side, something which has been hard for Quina to come by.
However, Arsenal are not the ideal transfer destination for him either with Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny already in the Gunners side. Arsene Wenger is known for his keen eye for young talent but even he, might not be favour a young midfielder at the moment.
The North London side have struggled to put up a successful title challenge over the past 2 seasons and are out of Champions League football. The fans are unsettled and Wenger needs to focus all his energy in realigning the train tracks.
