Liverpool are eyeing a move for Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi in the summer and as per reports, terms have already been agreed upon. Emre Can is set to leave Anfield in the summer and the Reds have chosen the Nigerian defensive maestro to replace him. Keep in mind, they have already signed Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.
Ndidi arrived at the King Power Stadium last year in January for £17m as N’Golo Kante’s replacement in the heart of the midfield. He has been a key figure for the Foxes over the course of the season with 35 total appearances across all competitions and registering 1 goal and 4 assists. The 21-year-old has taken over his role with a lot of maturity and composure and is improving significantly with each game.
He was a key figure in KRC Genk with 61 total league appearances and has been capped for the Nigeria national side on 14 occasions. He made his debut on 8 October 2015 in the friendly game against DR Congo.
Leicester’s impressive 8th placed spot in the Premier League can be tied to the impressive midfield partnership of Vicente Iborra and Ndidi alongside the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton. Almost every top side has taken notice of Ndidi’s easy transition to top-flight English football – something which does not come around very often.
Can’s situation at Liverpool has been peculiar, to say the least. A 6 feet tall German figure, Can has flourished in the anchor role this season and seems to be a perfect fit in Klopp’s system.
The Frankfurt-born midfielder is a key figure under Klopp and has racked up 4 goals and 3 assists in 29 games this season. Judging by the minutes he has received, one would think that the German has no reason to be unhappy at the club.
But it looks like terms for an extension has not been met just yet and Can is close to making the switch to Juventus. Klopp has featured the former Bayer Leverkusen player in the majority of the games over the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson on some occasions.
Can brings a high energy into the Liverpool midfield with a lot of technical ability on the ball. He fills up the gaps on both ends of the pitch and is a crucial figure in Klopp’s style of play.
Ndidi might not be able to replicate the German’s offensive quality but brings a completely different dynamic. In Liverpool’s chase for the league title next season, the Nigerian will come handy especially with Wijnaldum struggling to find his feet at the moment.
