Bayern Munich are no longer interested in signing FC Girondins Bordeaux winger Malcom amidst interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. According to recent reports, the Bundesliga giants have pulled out of the race to secure the services of the 21-year-old wide-man. Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes has dismissed reports linking the Bavarians with a move for the Ligue 1 ace, despite revealing a few weeks ago that they were interested in landing him. In a recent interview, Heynckes was quoted to have said, ‘I have never seen him play,’
‘Therefore, I am not able to give an opinion on him.
‘But I don’t think there is interest here. He always gets put into the shopping window but nobody really goes after him.’
A whole host of clubs are chasing after Malcom which includes the Gunners as well as their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. This recent development will be a big boost for their chances of landing the Brazilian’s signature when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season. Malcom has stated in recent weeks that Bordeaux are willing to let him leave in the summer and he would be allowed to choose which club he prefers in what is expected to be a bidding war for the player’s signature next summer.
The Gunners have slumped to sixth place in the Premier League table, eight points shy of fifth-placed Chelsea and 33 points behind league leaders Manchester City. They are in dire need of reinforcements in the summer in order to strengthen their squad and bridge the gap between themselves and the top 4 of the Premier League in the coming years.
The addition of a play of the calibre of Malcom will undoubtedly bolster Wenger’s attacking options going forward and at 21, he has immense potential to develop his game and become a Premier League star in a few years time.
Malcom is highly versatile and can operate on either wing or in the number 10 position which makes him an ideal fit for the Gunners. He has made 29 appearances for the Bordeaux this term, scoring 8 goals and providing 7 assists in all competitions. Arsene Wenger’s side should definitely go in with an offer for the 21-year-old next summer if they are serious about challenging in four different competitions next season. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Brazilian and whether he ends up moving to North London in the near future.
