Borussia Dortmund are eyeing a move for West Ham United youngster Domingos Quina next summer. According to recent reports, the Bundesliga giants are looking to secure the services of the Hammers youngster when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season. The German outfit wants to raid the Premier League once again in search of promising young talents after sealing a deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester City last summer.
The Portugal Under 20 midfielder is considered as one of the brightest prospects in English football which has seen the Football Association look into his eligibility for the England national team. However, the Hammers wonderkid has only featured in cup games with the East London outfit fighting for their lives to avoid relegation from the top-flight at the end of the season.
Quina started for David Moyes’ side in their Carabao Cup quarterfinal clash versus Arsenal in December last year. However, he failed to justify his manager’s faith in him on that occasion as his side crashed out of the competition with a 1-0 scoreline. Some sources are now claiming that Dortmund are ready to offer a route into German football, just 12 months after they recruited Manchester City’s Jadon Sancho.
West Ham United are currently struggling in the Premier League and find themselves in 17th place with just 8 league games remaining in this campaign. The Hammers are in dire need of some favourable results in the coming weeks following a dismal 3-0 home loss versus Burnley at the London Stadium last weekend. It seems highly likely that they will be dragged into a relegation dogfight going into the final stretch of the season.
David Moyes’ men have struggled to score enough goals during the course of this season so the potential departure of a promising youngster like Quina could leave their squad depleted ahead of the new season. The Portuguese teenager has featured in 16 matches for the West Ham United Under 23 team this season and has one assist to his name so far in all competitions.
It is understood that the Hammers rate the youngster pretty highly after capturing him from Chelsea’s academy two years ago. He primarily operates in central midfield and at 18, he has massive potential to develop into a Premier League star in the future, if the East London club opts to retain his services. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Quina and whether he ends up making a switch to Dortmund in search of fresh adventures.
