Huddersfield Town has signed their Danish goalkeeper Jonas Lössl on a permanent deal. The club has confirmed that they have triggered a clause to secure the services of the Denmark international permanently this summer. The Terriers goalkeeper will begin the deal on July 1 after the end of his current loan contract from Bundesliga outfit Mainz.
In a recent interview, Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner was quoted to have said, “The fact that Jonas will join the club permanently in the summer is excellent news for Huddersfield Town, following on from the boost that Florent Hadergjonaj will also become a full-time Terrier last week,”
“We knew that Jonas had big quality when he joined us on loan and that has certainly proven to be the case. The quality of his distribution has been perfect for the way we play, but he’s also made big, big saves at important moments. I also think we’ve seen him improve as the season has gone on.
“He’s been a huge part of our season so far, on and off the pitch, and I’m sure he’ll continue to be as we aim to retain our status in the Premier League.”
Lossl has featured in every match for the Terriers during the course of their Premier League campaign. He has played in 32 matches for the West Yorkshire outfit this season, conceding 53 goals while also keeping eight clean sheets in all competitions. The Danish keeper has also represented his nation at every youth level from Under 17 onwards. He also has one international cap for Denmark to his name.
The Terriers are currently sitting in the 15th position in the Premier League standings, just four points above the relegation zone. David Wagner’s side had to settle for a disappointing 0-0 home draw versus Swansea City last weekend. The addition of Lossl on a permanent transfer will undoubtedly improve their chances of Premier League survival next season.
It is increasingly important for David Wagner’side to retain some of their top players so that they can build around them in pursuit of a bigger and brighter future. Lossl has put in some eye-catching displays for the Terriers this season, keeping 8 shut-outs in the process. His performances at the St. John Smith Stadium during the course of this campaign has been impressive, to say the least.
He is exactly the kind of goalkeeper that fits Wagner’s style of play and at 29, the Danish keeper still has his peak years ahead of him which the West Yorkshire outfit could look to utilise in the coming seasons. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Lossl and whether he turns out to a success for Huddersfield Town in the near future.
