Liverpool are interested in securing the services of Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez next summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are still searching for a viable replacement of Phillipe Coutinho after the Brazilian left the club in January in a deal worth around £142m and the Galacticos wide-man has emerged as an option for Jurgen Klopp to consider.
However, the Merseysiders are not the only ones looking to secure his signature with Arsenal also eyeing a move for the player. Some sources have recently claimed that the Premier League duo are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old winger, who is also looking to make a switch in search of greener pastures. Vazquez has failed to feature in the Madrid first-team regularly this season but has got the nod to start in recent weeks under Zinedine Zidane. It is believed that the Spaniard has been left frustrated with a lack of game time and could be pushing for an exit out of the Spanish capital in the summer.
Vazquez has featured in 40 matches for Los Blancos this season, scoring 7 goals while providing 13 assists in all competitions. He primarily operates on the right flank but can also be deployed on the left side of the midfield which makes him a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team.
The Reds are currently in the 4th position in the top-tier standings after suffering a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Saturday. However, Liverpool are 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City. The addition of Vazquez would go a long way in helping them bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. He has a wealth of experience in La Liga but could need some time to adapt his game to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League.
The signing of Vazquez will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options going into the new season as his versatility and talents will be an ideal asset for the Reds if they can lure him to Merseyside. The Spaniard has also earned three international caps for Spain so far and is in contention to make it into Julen Lopetegui’s squad ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia later this year. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Vazquez and whether he ends up making a switch to Anfield in the near future.
