Liverpool have once again been linked with a move for AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker next summer. According to recent reports, the Reds could be tempted to make an offer for the Brazilian shot-stopper, despite sticking with Loris Karius as their new number one in recent weeks.
Alisson’s agent has made a post on Instagram yesterday when he teased an image indicating his client is preparing to enter contract negotiations with Roma which a lot of people were already expecting. The caption contained the following.
“Growing partnership! Here at Roma to look after the interests of our athlete Alisson Becker!”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his goalkeeping options ahead of the next campaign after both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has failed to impress with their performances during the course of this season. The Brazil international has kept 16 clean sheets and conceded only 31 goals in 36 matches for AS Roma this season in all competitions. It remains to be seen whether his move to Anfield will come to fruition next summer with Roma only looking to sanction a big money move for the player.
The Reds are currently occupying the 4th position in the top-flight standings after suffering a bitter 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United last weekend. The Anfield-based outfit find themselves just above the Blues, who are in fifth place with a four-point gap separating the two teams right now.
However, the Merseysiders are 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City. The addition of Alisson would go a long way in helping them bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. The five-time European champions need a top-class keeper if they are to challenge for silverware next season and in Alisson, that’s what they will be getting.
The Reds defence has been leaky, to say the least during the course of this campaign. Liverpool’s goalkeeping duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has conceded 34 goals in 30 Premier League matches. The acquisition of Alisson might be a significant upgrade over the duo going into what is expected to be another extremely competitive Premier League season next term. The Brazilian has a wealth of experience in Italy and Brazil but may need time to settle into English football. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Alisson and whether Jurgen Klopp’s side are able to convince AS Roma to part ways with their prized asset.
