Brazilian winger Malcom had been linked with a move to Arsenal previously according to reports. The 20-year-old winger who is currently playing for French club FC Girondins Bordeaux has previously been linked to Manchester United and Bayern Munich. Latest reports now have linked the player with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The player moved to France in 2016 and has since gone on to impress many people around Europe. He is off to a very impressive start this season and has already scored 8 Ligue 1 goals this season and added 7 more assists.
The versatile winger can play on either wing or in attack and has also featured for Brazil’s U-20 and U-23 sides. Manchester United scout has identified the dynamic young winger as a potential replacement and it is now being reported that Jose Mourinho wants to bring in the 21-year-old.
Reports have strengthened after it was learnt that the player has been taking English lessons in France in a bid to adjust to life in England. His Instagram story where he was seen learning the language can be a strong indicator of the fact that a move to England is imminent.
However, Bordeaux had strongly indicated back in January that a move for the player in January was out of the question but the summer could be a possibility.
‘He will not leave this winter,’ the Ligue 1 club’s president Stephane Martin told L’Equipe. ‘What if we go an immediate loan deal back? I don’t see that being in the interests of the club to do that. ‘We have not spoken about it and it is not something we are working on.’
However, if Tottenham were to sign Malcom, he would be a star arrival to the English Premier League. The player would definitely be a first team player and would play in the wings forming an attack alongside the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Harry Kane. However, it would mean that influential players like Son Heung-Min and Erik Lamela or new signings like Lucas Moura would have to be left out, something Pochettino would be unwilling to do.
Hence, exactly where Malcom would fit into this young attacking lineup and how beneficial would a move for an unproven player in a fast, physical league would be are two of the many questions Pochettino would have to answer for if Spurs do land the Brazilian star.
