Manchester United’s season has hit a major roadblock in the recent times, as the Red Devils found themselves bowing out of the Champions League, having been beaten comprehensively by Spanish side Sevilla in their own backyard. Now, with the Premier League race being almost won by Manchester City, Mourinho’s men are relying on their chances to win the FA Cup, their only hope to bring home a silverware this season.
Constant failure to win major trophies and inability to see off opponents at the bigger stage have been major problems for the Red Devils in the last few seasons. They finished in the 6th place in the last term, making it to the Champions League by winning the Europa League. Though they have been in fine form in the Premier League this season and are set to finish in the second position behind their “noisy neighbours”, one can sense that it might not be enough for them to satisfy the star players in the side.
Anthony Martial has been one of the most prolific performers for them since his arrival at Old Trafford two seasons ago. Having contributed heavily on the wings, both by scoring goals and laying off assists for the teammates, the Frenchman has put up the image of the perfect squad player. Mourinho has kept him out of the starting lineup to favour Marcus Rashford on several occasions this season, which seems to have not caused much of a difference for the 22-year-old winger.
Now, however, the scenario seems to be changing, with the player not been able to find it conducive to commit his long-term future at Old Trafford. Talks of a contract extension have been in troubled waters and speculations are rife that Martial might be on his way out of the Old Trafford in the near future.
Several clubs, reportedly, are looking to take advantage of the situation and lure him away from Manchester United. The latest addition to the list are the reigning Serie A champions Juventus, who are looking to strengthen their attack with the inclusion of some fresh feet in the forthcoming transfer season and might be more than happy to have their hands on a player of Martial’s stature.
The Bianconeri are having to toil hard this season, both in Europe and domestic competitions. With an in-form Napoli breathing on their neck in the race to keep their crown, they might also find it pretty hard to go past a resurgent Real Madrid side, who are willing to win the Champions League trophy the third time in a row.
The situation is pretty inconspicuous for Juventus as they might entertain the idea of revamping their side for the next season. Anthony Martial, with his pace and ability to find the back of the net, can be a very good addition for the Bianconeri and they might be interested to keep a keen eye on his contract situation at Old Trafford.
On the other hand, it might not be the wisest of decisions for Manchester United to let go of the 22-year-old Frenchman. His versatility and ability to play in both central role and on the wing can come handy for Mourinho and it will be in his best interest to solve the contract situation as soon as possible lest he wants Martial to stay.
