Antonio Conte’s Chelsea will struggle to make it to the Champions League next season and the Italian tactician is trying to make sure that he has good enough a squad to compete with the best in the upcoming campaign. The lack of quality from Alvaro Morata up front has seen Chelsea spend on Olivier Giroud, who has not done much in his time at Stamford Bridge.
This has pushed the Blues in search of a striker and PSG’s Edinson Cavani was reportedly at the top of their wish list. However, reports today claim that AC Milan are edging closer to the signing of the Uruguayan hitman, leaving Chelsea in search of another name. So who can Conte now target in the summer? Here are three strikers Chelsea should start scouting for ahead of the next season:
Andre Silva (AC Milan):
AC Milan was excited with the arrival of Portuguese international Andre Silva at the start of the season but the 22-year old has managed just one league goal in Serie A this season and is extensively linked with an exit at the end of the campaign. With Milan ready to sign Cavani, Silva will be up for grabs in the summer transfer window and Chelsea should certainly give him a shot. He is still young and will get better and has attributes that will make him a hit in England, making him a risk worth taking for the Blues.
Karim Benzema (Real Madrid):
The French international may have lost some of his guile in recent years but he is every bit of a goal scorer, the exact kind Chelsea are looking for. A dominant presence in the penalty box, Benzema is a target man and is just what Conte has been searching for, for a while now. He has an incredible record and is one of the most established strikers in Europe and though at 30, may not be a long-term option, Benzema is certainly a player who can solve the goalscoring problems for Chelsea in the immediate future.
Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich):
A transfer target for Chelsea even in the summer transfer window at the start of the season, Lewandowski has continued his immaculate goal scoring for this season and is helping Bayern to yet another league title. Manchester United are have already made an approach for his signature after reports claimed that he was open to an exit from Germany at the end of the season. But Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the past and should do what it takes to land such a proven goal scorer this summer.
