Real Madrid are monitoring the progress of Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson ahead of a potential move in the summer. According to recent reports, Los Blancos are tracking the Gunners winger and are keen on bringing him to the Spanish capital. The 18-year-old will just have a year left to run on his current contract with Arsenal at the end of the season and teams are now keeping tabs on his situation at the Emirates Stadium.
However, the Galacticos are not alone and may face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who have already shown an interest in the young winger. Nelson has featured regularly for the Gunners in their UEFA Europa League matches during the course of this campaign.
Some sources are now claiming that Zinedine Zidane’s side are also monitoring his situation in North London ahead of this summer transfer period. Similar to PSG, the reigning European champions are aware of the English starlet’s immense potential and would be open to luring him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Nelson has made 14 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions but is yet to find the back of the net so far. However, he has also featured in 9 matches for the club in the Premier League 2, scoring 7 goals and providing 2 assists.
The Gunners have slumped down to sixth place in the Premier League table, eight points shy of fifth-placed Chelsea and 33 points behind the Premier League champions-elect Manchester City. They are in dire need of reinforcements in the summer but whether Nelson will still be at the club beyond this season, remains to be seen.
Arsene Wenger’s side cannot afford to lose a player of his potential, especially after losing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United during the January transfer window and should do all they can to sign him up on a new long-term deal. Nelson’s impressive record in the Premier League 2 indicates that he has a bright future and the Gunners will be foolish to let him leave. The interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain could motivate the North London outfit and instil more belief in the youngster’s abilities as they look to bridge the gap between themselves and the top 4 in the coming years.
Nelson is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the frontline. He can play on either flank or in the number 10 position which makes him an ideal asset for any of his potential suitors. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the 18-year-old and whether he ends up making a switch to La Liga in the near future.
