Latest reports in England are confirming that Arsenal may be in the loop to snap up Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. The Gunners are without a strong holding midfielder after losing Francis Coquelin to Valencia.
Arsenal currently has a host of midfielders in Jack Wilshere, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Mohamed Elneny and young Joe Willock. While none of the midfielders have been able to make the headlines for the Gunners this season, there is still plenty to be hopeful about for the north London side.
Wilshere is finally showing glimpses of his true potential and Wenger is carefully bringing back his key midfielder into the grind. Should his development continue, he will be an asset to the club. The case for Xhaka is little more confusing as he can be an absolute class on his day but a total disaster on others. A little more discipline to his game will definitely see Xhaka perform well enough to don the Arsenal jersey for years to come. Aaron Ramsey is definitely going to stay at the club as he still churns out impressive performances every now and then.
As for the other option, at just 18 years old, Willock has already experienced European football. He has a good, calm head on him and a decent passing range. Add to that his knack of dribbling past a few in the middle of the park and Arsenal might have a future winner in the ranks.
Hence it is now a little surprising that Arsenal are being linked with Real Madrid’s star man Luka Modric. Modric considered to be the world’s best midfielder at the moment turns 33 next year and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes Mateo Kovacic and Dani Ceballos are more than prepared to replace the Croatian.
Real Madrid already has a host of midfield talent in their squad in the form of Marco Asensio, Isco, Luka Modric, Dani Ceballos, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Mateo Kovacic who can all play through the centre. Asensio and Isco are supposedly the future of the club and Kroos and Casemiro form the crux of the current team and are expected to be the backbone of the midfield for the coming years.
As for Modric, the transfer will be a journey back to London. The Croatian burst onto the big stage after impressing with Croatia in the 2008 Euros and was snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur soon after. Daniel Levy’s move proved to be a masterstroke as Modric was the perfect midfielder, tailor-made for the English league.
His vision, quickness on the ball, passing range, midfield sense and finally his long ranger goals made him a midfield dynamite in England. He went on to become a top midfielder and was snapped up Real Madrid in a few years’ time. The Croatian is, however, is in decent form and it is unlikely that Real will let go of him or he will ever join Tottenham’s arch-rivals as a footballer.
