Latest reports have confirmed that Paris Saint Germain are interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea. The spendthrift French club have broken several transfer records by signing Neymar and possibly lining up a permanent move for Kylian Mbappe next season. They are building a fearsome team in Europe capable of competing with the best and it is reported that they are interested in bringing in one of the best keepers in De Gea.
The news adds a new angle to the spin-off to the story between De Gea and his United future. He has now for long been linked with a move to Real Madrid. The story of the famous fax machine fiasco between Real Madrid and Manchester United is now of old news and it seems PSG want to hijack the move.
Real Madrid had come very close to securing the signature of Spanish stopper David De Gea in the summer of 2015. It involved a swap deal with Keylor Navas moving to Manchester United and David De Gea to Real Madrid. The goalkeeper, himself, had expressed his interest in completing a move to the Spanish capital and United it seemed had lost yet another superstar to Perez.
However, a late twist to the drama saw the move collapse in the eleventh hour and De Gea not only stayed at United for the time being but the Red Devil’s board managed to convince the Spaniard to a new four-year contract. Real moved away for the time being and stopped chasing him.
After the end of this current season, the Spanish custodian will be entering his final twelve months at Manchester and it is now being reported that PSG will be patiently waiting in the wings to come in with an offer for the 27-year old.
Manchester United are already falling off the wagon in terms of keeping up with the big fish in the pond and losing De Gea will cause another chunk in the armoury. Hence, even though the keeper is yet to decide upon his long-term future, the Red Devils must do everything in their power to keep the best players around if they wish to further develop the club rather than reflect on their past achievements. Whether it be Paris or Madrid, the men from Old Trafford simply cannot afford to lose their number one player.
Moreover, De Gea has enjoyed a good spell at Manchester and although it is possible he might leave for Madrid because of his Spanish connection, the rumours for PSG are definitely not worth Mourinho’s time.
