Many aspiring footballers dream of playing for Manchester United. One such kid who held high dreams of playing for Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United was Timo Werner. The young German striker has been in red-hot form for Leipzig and has broken into the international scene as well after grabbing some impressive goals for Germany in the Confederations Cup last year.
“As a young boy, you always dream of the big club you’d like to play for,” he told Sky.
“It used to be Manchester United under Alex Ferguson, who always won. A young boy is always a fan of those who win.
“You can’t just drop something like that. When it’s going well, you dream of playing somewhere else.”
Although the move for Werner will be happy for both the player and the fans it may not be the most pragmatic signing and hence as long as Jose Mourinho is in charge, a move would seem unlikely. Moving United out, other teams involved in the scene are Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
He had recently said that he would one day hope to play in the English Premier League.
“Playing in the Premier League is a dream for me,” he told FourFourTwo. “I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs.”
However, the player has said now that he is happy to stay at Leipzig for another year.
Asked if he would be staying at the club until the end of his current contract – which runs until 2022 – Werner replied: “Next year, definitely, I will stay in Leipzig.”
This news has turned down hopes for many suitors including Liverpool. The Reds have been one of the many clubs in pursuit and will now have to consider a possibility of not getting the German.
Currently, Liverpool have in their squad Roberto Firmino as the first choice central striker. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah who both play out wide are more than capable of finding their feet in the number nine role.
They also have Danny Ings who is a great potential in the English League. They also have young future talents in the form of Dominic Solanke and Ben Woodburn. Klopp is known to be a man who can turn young potentials into a future star and hence Liverpool seem heavily stocked in attack. They also have a possible star who can return next season in the form of Daniel Sturridge meaning that Werner is not someone Liverpool need now.
