The Old Firm derby game between Rangers and Celtic earlier today at the Ibrox Stadium lived up to the bills as these two clubs showcased one of the finest games of football. Josh Windass gave the Gers an early lead which was cancelled by Tom Rogic a few minutes later.
Daniel Candeias and Moussa Dembele found the back of the net for Rangers and Celtic, respectively, as the first-half concluded at 2-2. Jozo Simunovic was showed the red card in the early phases of the second-half but despite being a man down, Odsonne Edouard’s goal, after he came on for James Forrest, helped Brendan Rodgers’ men in bagging all 3 points.
Here is how we rated Graeme Murty’s troops on their 2-3 defeat at the hands of the Celts.
Wes Foderingham 5/10
The custodian should have done better to deny Dembele from finding the back of the net late in the first-half. Apart from that, he did make some decent saves.
James Tavernier 6/10
The right-back made a lot of attempts to gallop forward and unite with Candeias, but more often than not, his threats were nullified by Bhoys’ defence.
David Bates 2/10
Bates worked hard to churn a binding with Bruno Alves at the heart of the back line of Murty’s side but was unfortunate to get injured and be substituted early in the first-half.
Bruno Alves 6/10
The Portuguese imposed himself as a rock in Rangers’ defence but should have done more to read the movements of Dembele.
Declan John 6/10
The left-back kept James Forrest silent throughout the game and often galloped forward to aid his attacking teammates in the final third.
Sean Goss 4/10
Goss lack the commanding authority in the middle of the park and even when he was in possession of the ball, he couldn’t make good use of it more often than not.
Greg Docherty 5/10
The central midfielder shielded the back line in a decent fashion but he lacked the vision to pass the ball up the field on many occasions.
Daniel Candeias 7/10
Candeias stretched Celtic’s defence time and again and it was another decent outing for him from the right flank, although his deliveries were not really threatening at times.
Josh Windass 5/10
He might have found the back of the net in the early minutes of the game but there is no denying that he seemed to have disappeared from the final third after that.
Jamie Murphy 6/10
The left-winger made immense defensive contributions and offered his pace and exuberance from the left flank. However, he lacked the end product that was desired from him.
Alfredo Morelos 5/10
Morelos made Dedryck Boyata’s life miserable and kept asking questions to Rodgers’ defenders. But he should have scored from two yards to salvage a point for his employers.
Substitutions
Fabio Cardoso 3/10
He replaced Bates after the latter went off injured and was given torrid times by Dembele.
Jason Cummings 4/10
Cummings came on for Goss with just over 15 minutes left to play and did nothing apart from getting his basics right.
