Paris Saint-Germain are ready to make a swoop for Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino next summer. According to recent reports, PSG are lining up four potential managers who can succeed Unai Emery after he failed to cut the mustard in the UEFA Champions League once again with the French club this term.
It is believed that Pochettino is the firm favourite for the managerial position at the French capital and could be tempted to make a switch as he looks to win more trophies in the coming years. However, the Champions-elect of Ligue 1 are also keeping tabs on Antonio Conte’s situation at Chelsea and could move in for him, if he decided to quit the Stamford Bridge-based club. Some sources are also claiming that the French giants could move in for Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho or Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone next summer.
Pochettino has a wealth of managerial experience taking charge of Premier League clubs Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentine boss has also managed La Liga outfit Espanyol early on in his career. He has taken charge of 207 matches for Spurs so far, winning 114, drawing 49 and losing 44 of those contests. The 46-year-old has a healthy PPG (Points Per Game) average of 1.89 for Spurs during the course of his career.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently in 4th place in the Premier League standings, just two points above fifth-placed Chelsea with just 9 league matches remaining this term. The North London outfit are hoping to finish in the top 4 so that they can ensure Champions League football for the next campaign. They secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory at home courtesy of a Heung-Min Son brace versus Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
However, Spurs are still a staggering 20 points behind the league leaders Manchester City and are in need dire need to bring in some fresh faces next summer in order to bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. They were also knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Juventus last week but are still going strong in the FA Cup. Mauricio Pochettino has done really well since his appointment in North London in the summer of 2014.
He has dragged the club from Premier League mediocrity to being a Champions League regular in the last few years. The potential departure of Pochettino could leave Spurs significantly depleted if they fail to bring in a worthy replacement. The North London outfit should do all they can to keep hold of the Argentine’s services in the near future. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Pochettino and whether he ends up making a switch to the French capital next summer.
