Berke Ozer’s name has popped out in recent times after several big names in Europe started to take note of the 17-year-old’s talents. Manchester City are among the interested few who are monitoring Ozer’s progress with Altınordu F.K., in the TFF. 1 Lig.
The teenager plays in the goalkeeper position and is born of Turkish descent. He has been capped at U15, U16 and U17 Turkey sides all around 25 times and has also made 6 first team appearances for Altınordu this season.
According to Transfermarkt, Ozer’s contract with the Turkish outfit is set to run until the summer of 2019 and this will place City and rest of the European side in an advantageous position. Dubbed to be the Turkish “Donnarumma”, Ozer’s talents are clearly one to watch out for and it would highly beneficial for any team to acquire such a talent at such a young age.
A price of £2m was thrown around in early reports and according to the current market conditions, that would be a steal for Manchester City. At the time, 19-year-old Ousmane Dembele transferred to Barcelona last summer and became one of the world’s most expensive players ever.
When Kylian Mbappe’s move is made permanent after this season, he will become the second most expensive player behind his teammate Neymar. We even oversaw the massive contract Martin Odegaard was offered when Real Madrid came calling.
If anything, Ozer will at least manage a wage deal which will be able to fund his grandchildren’s education judging by the battle that is about to set off for his signature. Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City – all of them are locked in for a fight and the following transfer window will reveal where the teenager makes the switch to.
However, is City really the best destination for Ozer?
Pep Guardiola just signed a 24-year-old Ederson ahead of the 2017/18 season and the Brazilian has impressed. The Citizens are at the top of the table not just by the influence of their dominating offence but also because of the remarkable feats Ederson has pulled off in between the sticks.
After Claudio Bravo’s horrific show last year, It would be fair to say that Ederson’s services are here to stay for a long time with the former serving as a second option. Pep has put together a defence which already costs more than £250m and while the former Barcelona coach would like to further strengthen his squad, offensive additions might be in his priority at the moment.
Maybe Ozer is better off considering his other options.
