West Ham United are interested in securing the services of 16-year-old Italian goalkeeper Marco Meneghetti next summer. According to recent reports, the Hammers are lining up a move for the Pordenone Calcio teenager and their interest has been confirmed by the president of the Serie C side. The youngster made his debut for Pordenone Calcio earlier in this campaign with the club’s president Mauro Lovisa recently addressing his future and was quoted to have said,
“Marco Meneghetti is in the sights of the Hammers. I have the official e-mail from the British club. The fact is that Marco also interests Inter.”
Marco Meneghetti has just featured in one game in the Serie C this season but has the potential to develop into a world-class goalkeeper. The Hammers are building for the future and securing the services of the Italian starlet could go a long way in addressing their goalkeeping problems for years to come. West Ham has deployed Joe Hart, who is on loan from Manchester City, in the first half of their campaign while Adrian is currently lining up in goal for the East London club. However, they can now seek a long-term successor to Adrian and Meneghetti fits the bill perfectly.
The Hammers are currently sitting in the 14th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 30 points in 29 league matches. They have been a tough nut to crack in the league over the last few weeks and have done well after the appointment of David Moyes in November last year. However, Moyes’ side are just three points above the drop zone going into the final stretch of the season and are in need of a few favourable results in the coming weeks to ensure their Premier League lives for another season.
The addition of Meneghetti will undoubtedly bolster David Moyes’ goalkeeping options in the future as they look to establish themselves in the Premier League and push for a European place in the coming years. He has immense potential and can develop into a future star at the London Stadium if given the opportunity to showcase his talents in English football. At 16, he has enough time to grow and develop his game and adapt himself to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Meneghetti and whether he ends up making a move to East London in the near future.
