Pep Guardiola is building something monumental at Manchester City as his side are not only running away with the league title but are also one of the favourites to go all the way in the Champions League this season.
So it does not come as a surprise that some of the best stars in Europe are ready for a move to Etihad at the end of the season. But the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona seem to be too big an opportunity for stars even at Manchester City as reports now claim that star winger Leroy Sane could be out on his way to Bernabeu before the start of the next season.
According to reports from Spain, Leroy Sane is not too comfortable with Pep Guardiola’s methods and is convinced that a move to Real Madrid, as a replacement for Gareth Bale, is a step in the right direction for his career. The German now stands as one of the most productive players in England so how should Manchester City deal with this situation?
Having picked up eight goals and 11 assists in 18 league starts this season, Sane is one of the most important parts of the squad under Pep. He has cemented his place in the first team on the left flank and has tormented even the best of defenders in the league.
City decided to offer a number of star players new contracts after the turn of the year and though it was reported that Sane will also be offered one, there has been no news of the German putting pen to paper, which will be a cause of concern for the City fans.
At just 22, the former Schalke man, who only joined the club last season, spent his first campaign under Pep playing out of position but ever since he has been used in an attacking role, he has turned into a real match winner.
He picked up a goal and an assist in the recent league victory over Arsenal and is a player who cannot be replaced in the first team at Etihad. There are very few backups for him in the first team and if City do end up losing him to Real Madrid in the summer, they might have to spend on more than one winger, to cover for his output in front of goal.
Pep’s side will get enough of a compensation to spend on other players but they are better off trying to persuade Sane to stay beyond the summer. Winning the PL may not do it but if City go on to lift the UCL trophy, Sane might not be tempted to leave.
